Trademark & IP Translation

Jeddah is a major retail and trading market. Global brands enter it through local agents, and Saudi brands grow from it into the Gulf, Egypt, Turkey and beyond. Protecting a mark in either direction runs through documents in the registering office’s language: registration certificates, priority documents, powers of attorney, oppositions and patent specifications. Trademark translation needs precise terminology and an awareness that one word in a list of goods and services can widen or narrow protection. At Almadani Translation’s Jeddah branch we translate intellectual property documents as certified, stamped and signed translations, reviewed by a second translator, with a non-disclosure agreement on request.

Requests received 24/7

Who is this for?

  • Saudi brand owners registering abroad who need the Saudi registration certificate and priority documents in English or the destination country’s language
  • Foreign companies and their agents in Jeddah filing documents issued abroad with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, where an Arabic translation is required
  • Registration agents and IP consultancies that need certified translations of client files
  • Inventors, universities and start-ups needing patent applications and specifications translated
  • Parties to licence and franchise agreements that include rights to use a mark

The mark itself is not always translated

A brand name is a registered word, not text to be translated. So:

  • We keep the mark exactly as it is in its original letters, adding a transliteration in brackets if requested
  • We describe figurative elements such as the logo and colours where they appear in the certificate or application, without interpreting them
  • We do not freely translate a registered slogan; we carry it over and add its meaning in a note if the authority needs it

The list of goods and services: where protection lives

The list of goods and services defines the scope of protection. Rendering “clothing” as “sportswear” narrows it, and turning “cosmetics” into “care products” may be rejected as unclear. So we use the established terms of the Nice International Classification of goods and services, keep class numbers and item order as in the original, and have the second translator review the list item by item.

Patents

A patent specification is technical and legal at once: a description of the invention, numbered claims, and drawings with reference numerals. We translate the claims carefully so their meaning is neither widened nor narrowed, keep reference numerals consistent between text and drawings, and use a technical glossary for the field. For related engineering documents see technical and industrial translation.

The registering office’s requirements

The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property in the Kingdom, and registration offices elsewhere, each set their own language, attestation and deadline rules. We provide the certified translation; check procedural requirements with the office or your registration agent.

FAQ

Do you translate the brand name into Arabic?

We usually keep it in its original letters, adding a transliteration or meaning if the authority asks.

I have a deadline to answer an opposition. Can you rush it?

Yes. Tell us the deadline when you order and we confirm delivery with the quote; urgent orders carry an extra fee.

Is my patent application safe before publication?

We sign a non-disclosure agreement on request and limit access to the translator and reviewer.

Do you register trademarks?

No. We only translate; registration goes through the competent authority or a registration agent.
